On March 5, 2018 Devarenne Lab graduate student Dan Browne successfully defended his PhD thesis. Dan’s research focused on deciphering the genome of B. braunii. Congratulations Dr. Browne.
Dongyin Su Defends Thesis
On February 16, 2018 Devarenne Lab graduate student Dongyin Su successfully defended her PhD thesis. Dongyin’s studies focused on understanding the kinase activity of the SnRK1 complex from tomato. Congratulations Dr. Su!
Review of Microfluidics Use in Algal Research Published
The Devarenne lab recently had a new review paper published in Algal Research that reviews recent research advances in the use of microfluidics for algal biotechnology research. This review was headed by Dr. Arum Han.
New Paper Describing B. braunii Extracellular Protein Published in Algal Research
The Devarenne Lab recently had a paper published in Algal Research describing the isolation and characterization of the PSAP protein from the B race of B. braunii. PSAP is a highly glycosylated protein found in the extracellular matrix of B. braunii and it may play a role in the biosynthesis of the polysaccharide fibril sheath that surrounds the B. braunii colony. This study was lead by graduate student Mehmet Tatli and was a collaboration with the Complex Carbohydrate Research Center at the University of Georgia.
New Study Published About Collaborative Research on Algal Microfluidics
Today the Devarenne lab had a new paper published in Plant Direct about our continuing collaborative studies with the lab of Dr. Arum Han. This study features the development and implementation of an algal droplet microfluidics device that can perform high-throughput screens to analyze lipid and biomass production in order to identify mutants of interest from a large mutant population.
