Devarenne Lab graduate student Hem Thapa successfully defended his PhD thesis on June 2, 2017. After the defense we held a party at Tim’s house. The party was a joint party with the Straight lab to celebrate the successful PhD defense of Reed Stubbendieck in May. Reed and Hem are shown in the picture at the party.
Paper Published in Genome Announcements Describing Draft Genome for Botryococcus braunii
Today the Devarenne Lab had a new paper published in Genome Announcements. The paper describes the draft nuclear genome of the B race of Botryococcus braunii. The study was lead by graduate student Dan Browne and was a collaboration between many labs and the sequencing was conducted by the JGI.

Paper Published in the Journal of Natural Products Describing New Botryococcenes
Recently the Devarenne lab had a new paper published in the Journal of Natural Products. The paper describes the isolation and structural characterization, using extensive NMR analysis, of several new botryococcene molecules from Botryococcus braunii. The study was lead by graduate student Mehmet Tatli.
New Algal Microfluidics Paper Published from Collaboration with Dr. Arum Han
Recently the Devarenne lab had a paper published in the Analyst from our ongoing collaboration with the lab of Dr. Arum Han. The paper highlights efforts to incorporate Raman spectroscopy into the microfluidic devices we have developed for the analysis of algal growth and lipid production.
