Today the Devarenne lab had a paper published based on our collaborative studies with the lab of Dr. Edmundo Lozoya-Gloria at CINVESTAV in Irapuato, México. The study was published in PeerJ and details ROS production by Botryococcus braunii in response to stresses as well as the characterization of the Defender Against Death 1 (DAD1) gene from B. braunii, race B. These studies are the focus of Ivette Cornejo Corona’s thesis studies.
Victoria Yell Receives the Ethel Ashworth Tsutsui Scholarship
Undergraduate student Victoria Yell has been awarded the 2016 Dr. Ethel Ashworth Tsutsui scholarship from the Department of Biochemistry & Biophysics. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide one or more scholarships to full-time female students in good standing pursing a degree in the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics from Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas. To be eligible for this scholarship, the student must be a current female Biochemistry or Genetics major.

Paper Published Describing Raman Spectroscopy Analysis of B. braunii L Race Hydrocarbons
Today the Devarenne lab had a new paper published in the Journal of Molecular Structure describing the unique spectroscopic features of the hydrocarbons from the L race of B. braunii using Raman spectroscopy. This study was one of several we have initiated with the lab of Jaan Laane for Raman spectroscopy studies.
Devarenne Lab Visits Jester King Brewery
On Sunday the Devarenne Lab took a break from the ASPB Plant Biology 2016 Meeting and went out to the Jester King Brewery outside of Austin. We tasted some beers and had wood fire cooked pizza at Stanley’s Farmhouse Pizza. We all had a great time.
